Public Transportation

Dormont has excellent public transportation access, including the Light Rail (Red Line or the “T”) and two bus routes.  Both the “T” and the buses go into the city and can take you to the Greyhound Station, Amtrak Station, and Pittsburgh International Airport (Via Route 28X Airport Flyer).

Pittsburgh Regional Transit’s website has more information on planning trips and schedule interruptions.

Light Rail
The Light Rail, or the “T”, is a trolley which runs through the middle of Dormont and leads both Downtown and out to South Hills Village. There are three stations in Dormont:

  • Stevenson Station
    • On Broadway Avenue
    • Not wheelchair accessible
  • Potomac Station
    • At the corner of Broadway and Potomac
    • Wheelchair accessible
    • Sheltered
    • Has a live schedule screen
    • Ticket Kiosk
    • Free parking lot
  • Dormont Junction
    • On Raleigh Ave, just downhill from the intersection of West Liberty and Park Blvd.
    • Wheelchair accessible
    • Sheltered
    • Has a live schedule screen
    • Ticket Kiosk
    • Large, free parking lot. This station is ideal for parking and riding.

The “T” is the best way to get in and out of Downtown Pittsburgh, especially for commuting or for major events like concerts, sports games, parades, marathons, festivals, and conventions.

The Red Line connects to the Blue Line and Silver Line both in Pittsburgh and in Castle Shannon, which can take you to much of Castle Shannon and out to Bethel Park. When headed out from the city, only the Red Line will take you through Dormont.

Tickets
Tickets can be purchased at Potomac Station and Dormont Junction. A ConnectCard is a card you can load funds onto and use like cash and is useful if you ride often. You can get these from Ticket Kiosks, any Goodwill or Giant Eagle locations. There is also a mobile app that can store cash for ease of use called Ready2Ride. These methods work for both the “T” and the bus.

The Bus
Two bus lines run through Dormont.

  • On West Liberty Avenue, Route 41
  • On McFarland and Banksville Road, Route 36

The best way to plan a bus route is to use the PRT website’s Trip Planner function, as it will tell you where/when each bus runs and how to use connecting bus routes to reach your destination.
