Permit FAQs

Why do I need a permit?

Quite simply, safety.  Building codes help ensure that the structure in which we live, work, learn and play meet safety standards against collapse, fire and other potential dangers.  When buildings are not up to code, there is a greater chance for structural failure to occur, causing a hazard to the occupant of the structure or to the public.  To avoid costly delays or penalties, permits must be applied for and approved before any work is completed.

Where can I find building permits and how much do they cost?

A list of permits can be found on our website https://boro.dormont.pa.us/building-permits or applications can be obtained by coming to the Borough offices located at 1444 Hillsdale Ave, Ste 10.  Our fee schedule can be found on our website https://boro.dormont.pa.us/fee-resolutions.
