UPDATED INFORMATION 10/22:
The Borough of Dormont conducted a safety audit of its playgrounds following their closure due to liability concerns. The Borough received a recommendation from a certified playground inspector from Pashek+MTR to remove Castle Playground, along with the 2024 Playground Safety Audit this week. You can read the full letter and the full audit below.
Borough Council will discuss the matter on Monday, October 28 during the Supercommittee/Agenda meeting at 6pm and will vote on the issue during the Borough Council meeting on Monday, November 4 at 7pm. Both meetings will take place in-person with the option to also participate online via Zoom. Meeting details can also be found on our website: boro.dormont.pa.us

UPDATED ADDITIONAL STATEMENT 10/4:
The Borough was notified yesterday that its insurance carrier would no longer insure the playgrounds due to safety issues with each. Because of that notification, the decision was made to close each of them immediately so that we can take the necessary steps to ensure their continued use – and safety of those who use them. We are moving as quickly as we can to find a resolution and will be reporting out to everyone with those details. Please feel free to attend Monday’s council meeting in person or on Zoom for that discussion.

FIRST STATEMENT 10/3:
We regret that we must close Dormont’s three playgrounds indefinitely until the Borough can make necessary upgrades for the safety our community’s children. Borough Officials take safety seriously and regrets that this closure came unexpectedly. Addressing these needs is a priority and will be handled at the forthcoming Council Meetings in October and November.
Until that time, nearby playgrounds include:
Banksville Park
1485 Crane Ave.
Hale Park
220 Silver Oak Dr.
Greentree Nature Center Playground
1214 Greentree Rd.
Mt. Lebanon Park
900 Cedar Blvd.
Williamsburg Park
212 Sleepy Hollow Rd.
Thank you for your understanding and patience while we make improvements to our community, for the benefit of all.
