Earlier this week, an employee who was addressing weeds at the park mistakenly cut down the native garden. It was an honest mistake and very noticeable to the many residents who continue to support and encourage the development of a native garden at that site. While we’re sorry this happened, we’re doubling down on our commitment to build a native garden at that site and will use this opportunity to educate more residents and our staff about native plants and the benefits of gardens such as this one.
We’re fortunate that the plants will grow back, and thankful to the council members and residents who have painstakingly spent their time over the last few years planning and building out the hillside, and grateful for their forgiveness with this faux pas.
And in the meantime, consider selecting native plants for your own properties. The Audubon Society has a handy database (https://www.audubon.org/native-plants) to discover native plants in your area and which types of birds they’ll attract. Just enter your zip code – it’s as easy as that.
