Tuesday, February 10 2026 Update
Please be advised, the Department of Public Works (DPW) will be resuming snow removal on Wednesday, February 11.Tomorrow’s Clearing Schedule is below. If you live on these streets and are able to remove your vehicles from the roadway, it will make the job easier. Thanks!
Miles Avenue: From Lasalle to Edgehill Edgehill Avenue: From West Liberty to Broadway AvenueResidents should also be aware that there is currently a road salt shortage affecting all South Hills communities. The salt shortage has limited the Borough’s response to the winter storm as a result. DPW will be addressing any future storms on a case-by-case basis and will be stretching the existing salt supply throughout the rest of the winter. The Borough of Dormont thanks residents for their patience and understanding through this difficult period.

Winter Weather Update: Road Treatment & Snow Removal
Our Public Works and Parks crews continue to be out in full force, working 12-14 hour days, and utilizing three additional contractors to manage the snow removal throughout the borough along its 28 road miles.
Compounding the challenge of navigating the tight roads and compact area is the continued cold weather and snow squalls. In addition to removing snow, the crews are also maintaining roads, plowing alleys, and salting.
We appreciate the many compliments and messages of appreciation that have come through to the borough for the work that’s been done but also understand the frustration that’s coming from others. Our commitment to you is to continue communicating with you and we’ll ask the same of you.
Here is the latest on our progress and what we need from you to keep the neighborhood safe and accessible.
What’s Being Done
Our own Public Works and Parks crews and equipment have been out each day. In addition, the mayor declared a state of emergency last Sunday allowing us to engage additional support and contractors to assist in the snow removal.
In addition to the high lift, dump trucks, backhoe, trucks and tractor put into use by our crews, the four contractors have also added three bobcats, three dump trucks and three triaxles. Another contractor, with additional equipment, will be added into the mix today.
The snow is currently being transported to the back of the Keystone Oaks stadium where piles are reaching 20’. We thank the school district for their help during this time. As that space is used, the crew will pivot to using the pool parking lot.
Curious what 20’ piles of snow look like? Check out the video below shot earlier today.
Today’s Clearing Schedule
The crews today are focused on clearing snow from these areas – if you live on these streets and are able to remove your vehicles from the roadway, it will make the job easier. Crews are starting as early as 6 AM.
- Kelton: From Eastmont to West Liberty
- Hillsdale: From the tracks to Dwight
- Potomac: From West Liberty to Belrose
As schedules are finalized, we will try to provide an update by end of day as to what roads and areas will be focused on the following day. At this time, crews expect to work throughout the weekend.
Don’t Be a Jagoff—Be a Good Neighbor
We’re all in this together. Let’s keep the peace and the pavement clear:
- Clear the “Furniture”: Please remove all lawn chairs, cones, and “parking savers” from the street.
- Respect the Hustle: If a neighbor spent an hour digging out a spot, don’t be the person who swoops in and takes it. Use common sense and common courtesy.
Sidewalk Maintenance & Safety
Property owners are responsible for clearing their sidewalks. We know that it can be a challenge, but it’s also the neighborly thing to do.
- Liability: Unclear sidewalks are a major safety hazard for pedestrians and a liability for you.
- Pedestrian-Friendly: Our community is pedestrian-friendly, many of our neighbors and friends walk to get around or use public transit walking along our sidewalks to get there. Our students are also expected to return to school next week, making this even more important.
- Enforcement: Official enforcement will begin Monday. Please ensure your walkways are clear of snow and ice before then.
- Challenges: If you have issues or challenges that you’re not able to resolve that are keeping you from clearing your sidewalks, let the borough know that. Send a message through Access Dormont (the app or online) or by calling the office. We can’t help or address it if we don’t know about it!
Parking Enforcement Update
- Current Status: Parking enforcement is currently suspended to allow residents – and the borough – time to manage the snow. This applies to permit parking and borough lots.
- Looking Ahead: We will provide a 48-hour notice before regular parking enforcement resumes. Keep an eye out for those updates.
Stay safe and stay warm!
Tuesday, January 27, 2026 Update

From Dormont’s Department of Public Works:
The Department of Public Works will be operating when the snow begins to fall through the duration of the storm. They will be doing their best to maintain road conditions. This will be a difficult task considering snowfall rates at an estimated 1-2 inches per hour are possible.
Public Works has received a salt delivery in time for this weekend’s storm. However, considering the potential storm duration, snow fall rates, snow totals, and low temps that have been forecast, the plan is to continue to conserve the salt supply by plowing nonstop and saving salt for bricks streets, hills, and emergencies. Once the snow stops, everything will be salted.
DPW will be running in three shifts beginning at midnight Saturday into Sunday (unless the snow starts sooner):
- First Crew: 8-hour shift Saturday into Sunday
- Second Crew:16-hour shift; all day Sunday
- Third Crew: 8-hour shift bringing the first crew back on Sunday working into Monday.
Please join us in thanking them, in advance, for their work to keep us safe.
Some additional notes from DPW:
- Roads are the priority for Public Works. The alleys will be plowed after the snowfall has ended and the roads have been cleared of snow.
- Please park elsewhere if you have means to park off the street, especially if you know you don’t have to travel anywhere until after the storm.
- We understand parking is tough in our borough, but we ask that you be mindful of how and where you park. When parking on the street, make sure you are on the correct legal parking side, close to the curb, and fold the streetside mirror in, if able.
- When parking near a corner or intersection, please do not park on the yellow curb. The trucks need that room to make turns and give them an area to push the snow.
- Please keep in mind it is illegal to put snow in the streets when clearing your sidewalk.
Lastly, please remember our crew is working hard and takes pride in their efforts to keep our roads clear. Stay home if you can, stay safe, and be patient as Public Works does their very best to make the roads safe.
From the Dormont Fire Department (DFD):
The Dormont Fire Department (DFD) is also preparing for this weekend’s winter storm, as they would with any forecasted major weather event. The main issue DFD will address is staffing the station during the storm. With the storm expected over the weekend, DFD will be staffed by two career firefighters and enough volunteer firefighters for two crews. This is considered the minimum staffing for an event like the one forecasted. (In comparison: Standard weekend staffing has a career firefighter on duty from 4:00 p.m. on Fridays until 8:00 a.m. on Mondays.)
Chief Stakich supplemented volunteers because of the severity of the forecasted snow totals and expected difficulty in response from firefighters at home. DFD will have tire chains ready to deploy for the Engine if the roads get extremely bad. DFD’s smaller vehicles all run winter-capable tires and are either AWD or 4WD. Fortunately, the station house had an emergency generator installed in late 2024, so DFD can maintain all services even in the event of a power outage. Chief Stakich also prepped several radios to communicate with DPW throughout the weekend.
From the PA Emergency Management Agency (PEMA):
A winter storm system will bring heavy snow to much of the state beginning on Saturday, January 24 and lasting through the early morning hours on Monday, January 26.
Heavy snow is likely to result in dangerous travel conditions across the affected area. As a result, travel restrictions are likely. Bitter cold air with dangerously cold wind chill values will precede the storm and persist afterwards.
TIER 4 RESTRICTIONS ARE ANTICIPATED TO BEGIN SATURDAY AT MIDNIGHT. The complete list is available on 511PA. The list is lengthy. Here’s why:
We are expecting a range of 8-16 inches of snow throughout the state. Due to the cold weather that’s also expected, a primary concern is the danger associated with trapped motorists on a roadway for an extended period of time.
The timing of the restrictions is to make sure operators have access to adequate and accessible parking.

Thursday, January 22, 2026 Update
The Pittsburgh area is once again hunkering down as more winter weather arrives. An expansive winter storm is predicted to impact much of the mid-Atlantic, but how it will impact Dormont remains to be seen.
It’s not too early to prepare though. Consider these four to-dos:
💡Equip yourself in case of power outages: Have emergency kit basics on hand – extra blankets, candles, flashlights, and nonperishable food. And do what you can to keep cellphones and other electronic devices charged.
❄Prepare your home for the cold: Leave taps at a trickle to prevent standing water from freezing or, in the event of a power outage, even shutting off the water supply and letting taps run dry.
🧤Pull out your warmest clothes: Dress in multiple layers of loose-fitting clothes with moisture-wicking, non-cotton fabrics closest to the body and a layer that can block wind and precipitation on the outside. And don’t forget a hat, gloves and warm socks.
🏠Be a good neighbor: Being neighborly is one of the best things about our community. With extreme weather in particular, consider checking in your neighbors and making sure that they have what they need during winter weather.
