To All:

TRAFFIC CONTROL/ROAD CLOSURES

There have been no changes to the closures since last week.  They continue to be as follows:

  1. Potomac Ave. South side of the tracks – Remains completely open from West Liberty Ave. to the Port Authority tracks.  All signs have been removed south of the tracks. The “Road Closed” signs that were at Espy Ave., have been pushed back to the tracks.
  2. Broadway Ave. South side of the tracks – Is open and has reverted back to a 1-way street going towards LaSalle Avenue.
  3. Espy Ave. East (church side) – Is open and has reverted back to a 1-way street going towards Potomac Avenue, except for the short section up to the public parking lot which is 2-way.
  4. Eastern Alley – The temporary detour has been eliminated and the traffic direction has been changed back to the pre-construction direction, that being from Belrose to Espy.
  5. Potomac Ave. North side of the tracks – Is fully closed to vehicles from the tracks to Voelkel Ave.  Traffic coming from the north will have to detour at Connecticut or Voelkel Avenues.  Traffic  coming from Voelkel Ave. (Hillsdale side) will be permitted to make a left turn only on to Potomac Ave.  Traffic coming from Voelkel Ave. (LaSalle side) will be permitted to make a right turn only on to Potomac Ave.
  6. Broadway Ave.  North side of the tracks – is closed at Potomac Ave. and open to local traffic only.  It is now a temporary 2-way street.  Parking has been restricted at the Potomac end (meters have been bagged) to allow for local traffic to make “K” turns.

During construction, sidewalks will be left with a compacted gravel surface until the pavers are installed.  These sidewalk areas, although set 5” below the curb, are open for use by pedestrians.

BOROUGH ROAD CONSTRUCTION

Potomac Ave. Phase II Reconstruction Project Status:

  • Sidewalk pavers have been installed on the east side of the street across the frontage of Dr. Love’s.
  • Nine (9) lantern style lamp poles have been installed, three (3) on the west side and five (5) on the east side.

The following is the anticipated construction schedule for next week:

Section 2 – North Side of the Tracks

  • Installation of sidewalk pavers will be completed.
  • Excavation of the street will begin.
  • Installation of the lantern style light fixtures will be completed, the circuit checked and the lights made operational.

The Borough will have this and future updates posted on the Borough Facebook page and the Borough website.

We understand that the closures listed above will have a significant impact on the community.  We continue to work to minimize disruptions to daily life and thank you for your patience during this transformative project.
