The Police Department was adopted by the Borough of Dormont in the early 1920’s and continues to serve the 9,000 + residents of Dormont on a 24 hour basis. The Police Department consists of one chief, four sergeants, eight patrol officers, and four desk officers.
Our prime directive is to preserve our low crime rate and continue to respond to the communities crime related needs in a quick and courteous fashion. The officers are all full-time and well trained and are proud to be able to offer one of the quickest response times of any police department in Allegheny County.
The Department is a member of the Allegheny County 9-1-1 Dispatch Center and they coordinate all 9-1-1 services as well as routine call taking/dispatch for the Borough. With the incorporation of a recent mutual aid pact, we now have immediate access to the resources of over 12 adjacent police departments in the South Hills who will assist us in any major emergency. We also are a member of Medical Rescue Team South (MRTSA), which supplies Advanced Life Support ambulance service to six South Hills communities. All officers are trained in first-aid and Automated Defibrillators (AED’s) that are utilized by all responding squad cars.
The Dormont Police Department strives to supply professional law enforcement officers that will do their very best to provide a safe environment for all of our residents to enjoy. The Dormont Police Department is an active participant in community events including the annual public safety day. We are always available to speak to any member or group in the community about any topics including topics involving overall public safety, home safety, and crime prevention.
The Dormont Police Department would also like to extend our appreciation to the relationships that we have acquired with our residents over the years helping us to make Dormont a pleasant place to live and work.
