Brookline Man Arrested in Dormont Bank Robbery |

Allegheny County – On Wednesday, December 7, 2022, at 3:44 pm, Dormont Police were dispatched to a hold up alarm at the Dollar Bank located in the 3000 block of West Liberty Avenue. First responders learned that a robbery had just occurred. Several local police departments searched the area for the suspect with negative results. The investigative assistance of the Allegheny County Police General Investigations Unit was requested. Detectives responded along with the FBI Violent Crime Task Force and initiated an investigation with Dormont Police.
Investigators learned that a lone male wearing a surgical mask handed a note to a teller demanding money. The note indicated that the suspect would kill people unless his demands were met. No weapon was observed. The male fled the bank with a known quantity of cash. Investigators canvassed the area and were able to identify a suspect vehicle. Dormont Police later received a tip.
During the early morning hours of Thursday, December 8, 2022, Investigators executed a search warrant in the700 block of Brookline Boulevard in the City of Pittsburgh, with the assistance of Dormont Police and Pittsburgh Police. Several evidentiary items were located which included all the stolen cash and the suspect vehicle.
As a result of the investigation, Ahmed Ali Asiri, 26, of the Brookline area of Pittsburgh was arrested by investigators. Asiri is charged with robbery by oral or written demand, theft by unlawful taking of movable property, and terroristic threats. Asiri was transported to the county jail where he is awaiting arraignment. A mugshot is not available at this time.
